The Alkan Air Flight Academy was established in 2016. With over 40 years in Yukon aviation, Alkan Air opened the flight school with a vision to provide opportunity to Yukoners to join our dynamic aviation industry in the North.
Mission Statment
Alkan Air Flight Academy is a professional flight school located in Canada’s North. Our guiding principle is to inspire people to achieve excellence in their chosen path in aviation. We provide high quality aviation education for both recreational and career pilots supported by experienced staff and advanced equipment and facilities. Our school culture balances fun and adventure with professionalism and safety for a relaxed but effective learning environment. Our unique location enables students to experience many types of flying experiences to create well rounded and capable pilots.

Lance AppleFord
Chief Flight Instructor/FTU Manager/Class I Instructor
Lance began his career in education in 1996, teaching English as a second language in Asia. Lance became a flight instructor in 2007, after many years of working as a pilot across Canada, including 4 years in 703. Lance spends his time at the Alkan Flight Academy managing the flight school, and teaching instructors and multi-ifr ratings

ADAM Tetzlaff
Class II Instructor
Adam joined Alkan Flight Academy as a flight instructor in April, 2021. He has over 1500 hours of flight time across Canada, and is an experienced mountain flyer after flying throughout the BC/AB Rockies and our Yukon ranges. Adam found himself in Whitehorse after tagging along with a friend on a Whitehorse road trip. He fell in love with Whitehorse after only 1 day, applied for a job, and the rest is history. Adams positive attitude is infectious, and his love for flying translates to his passion for instructing. He loves seeing his students progress, from their first flight to their first job!

Edward peart
Class IV Instructor
Ed is Alkan’s newest flight instructor, however, his aviation experience is extensive. As a teen, Ed was an Air Cadet and Glider pilot. He served 17 years with the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) as a Cadet Instructor Cadre Officer, where he developed razor sharp aviation logistical talents. For the past decade, Ed has worked in various Management positions in airlines in the Yukon (including Alkan Air Ltd). Ed is truly a team player, and has so much passion for flying and pursuing his dream career. His favourite part of instructing is sharing his knowledge and helping others experience the beauty of flight.
